Why I dance

“As a dancer and a human being, I strive to create work and live my everyday life as a contributing participant to this world with a singular goal: How can I can make things better?”

I dance to create beauty that can be used to nurture who we are and where we live. Dance is my vehicle, my mode to keep pushing boundaries on what we do as a community and how that community is seen. Growing up with dance, I felt true passion at an early age. I knew what it felt like because of this art form. I am committed to finding a great, detailed, and beautiful purpose in all the work that I do alone and in the work I do with others. I strive to create a world where dance is not just appreciated but a world where dance is necessary. I find importance in moments of beauty, authenticity and subtleness but also in chaos and uncertainty. The authenticity comes from a raw, organic place within–a feeling of total freedom. The chaos often feels necessary, whether that chaos takes place in moments of rage or moments of silence. I understand that all artistic choices are valued and important for the world we live in, and I want to learn from each choice. Movement is beautiful, it is unique, and it is something that has helped me discover myself in ways I hadn’t known before. I have a clear focus on how essential dance is for this world, and how I can help keep this art form alive. It is essential for the well-being of humans, and it is essential for the world—it is a way to continue to see beauty in what’s around us. Dance helps me feel whole. I am a better version of myself because of the movement I am able to create throughout every inch of my body and my goal is to pass on that passion to others.
